President Scott read minutes of the last meeting and reported a financial $4797.54. Scott opened the meeting with a Truck parked illegally on side streets some improvements. Street sweeping could help get these cars off the street. Greg thanked Deputy Chief Williams for his situation of a dumpster and 2 unregistered cars in a vacant apt. on the north end. This a huge issue of unregistered cars in the city. John Messia is working with businesses at Westgate on the homeless problem of dumping trash in the back bordering DW Fields park. Scott asked Capt. Hallisey about the shooting at Dollar Tree and he said it was a former employer shooting Manager and another employee. The Montello Business Association gives its sincere condolences to the families of the victims. The alleged killer is still at large but identified. Councilor and former mayor Winn Farwell gave a nice presentation with handouts showing the financial status of Brockton. He mentioned that residentials are most of the tax base with 18% commercial. Need more commercial
tax base. Scott mentioned the school dept owning buses. Councilor Lally said it was a win-win situation. The shortage of substitute teachers was also mentioned. Winn said more police officers and fire personnel coming due to grants. The safety complex is going to be a nice building unlike old looking police station. Education on code enforcement needs to be addressed. Mayor Sullivan is for improvements of a cleaner city. Homelessness big issue. Some of them come from Mass Cass in Boston. Father Bills will help but the homeless cannot be hostile. Pan Handlers stay off the streets and stay on sidewalks A big hit to the North end is the future closure of Stop & Shop on North Montello. Officer Salamone said most employees are on foot and live nearby and shoppers are the same. Councilor Lally and Asack said they will be in talks with the owners of both the property and Stop & Shop to work out a solution. John Messia talked about the Snow Clock grant. The Mayor is on board with helping to preserve this historical piece. Councilor Farwell said a go fund me might help for future financial gain. Scott closed the meeting at 7:45 PM.
